Constructing a Personal Statement (Part 2)

This post shows my first and final draft of my personal statement. This is a document used when applying to University through UCAS and may also be required for apprenticeships and jobs. I used a class template and my own research to show me how to structure my personal statement and what information I should put in my paragraphs. I received feedback from a lecturer and improved my drafts. Here is my first draft Content creation and media has been my main passion since I was 10 years old.docx from ElliotDaroczy Lecturer Feedback Emma Leslie-Boddy Thank you Elliot for letting me have a read through your first draft, please see below for some pointers to enhance your statement. For your first paragraph, can you identify anyone that has particularly inspired you to pursue a career in this field? You should identify what your career aspirations are and why. In addition, you should mention what degree you are applying for. You have included your results for exams but this isn't ...

Personal Statement Research (Part 1)

Image
Here is A PowerPoint where I research into personal statements and how to make them stand out. In this presentation I dive into what not to do, as well as the importance of a personal statement and how a good personal statement can impact your chances of getting a job over someone else. This research has helped expand my knowledge on personal statements and I will make sure to apply the tips when writing my own. Personal Statement Research.pptx from ElliotDaroczy What should a 500 word personal statement include?  Brainstorm themes or stories you want to focus on. It should be personal. Answer the prompt. Show don't tell.  Just start writing. Ideally, your personal statement should be no more than around 150 words (or four or five lines of your CV). Any more than this and you run the risk of rambling and taking up valuable space.  Remember: it’s a summary, not a   cover letter . So keep it concise, pertinent and to the point. Preparation Here is a guide I watc...

My Cover Letter (Part 2)

Image
Cover Letter Draft 1 I made this draft on google docs, and I wanted to make sure I included all the information about my education. I have also spoke about my past work, and what I am working towards. I want my employers to know about all my achievements, so included them as well. Feedback Emma Leslie Boddy :  Cover letter - a good idea to explore this but could you include this on a Word doc. - again use a template. Having it typed directly to Blogger doesn't look great.  My Cover Letter - Draft 2 Here is my new cover letter, I used a word template to make it look more professional. I want to make sure this is presentable to my employers. I made sure to consider my research when creating this Cover Letter. I also added my email, and contacts to this one. I wanted to make it look more professional. Elliot Daroczy Cover Letter.docx from ElliotDaroczy Conclusion As a whole, this process has helped me gain a better understanding of cover letters, and how to cons...

EXISTING PRODUCT So, here we have an example of a cover letter. As you can see, this person has gone into depth about their past in engineering. In mine I will talk about my past in content creation, and how I grow my pages. This person also spoke about their education, personally I will do this as well. However, I will share the grades I got because that helps my employers get to know me more. As well as this, they talk about what they are currently studying. I will talk about the fact I am a college student, who is studying media. This was helpful to read, it helped expand my knowledge on cover letters. I will consider this research when constructing my own. TIPS FOR WRITING A COVER LETTER make sure the company name and recruiter's details are correct. use the right language and tone: keep it professional and match the keywords used by the employer in their job advert. show you've done your research into the job and the company. 5 Qualities That Are Part of Every Successful C...

Constructing a CV for employment

Image
Below is my research on CVS's as well as my own CV - which is obviously tailored towards the media industry. The CV will contain my own personal information, as well as my personal statement. It will also explain what type of job I am looking for. I believe that a lot of other content is relevant, to the job your going for such as telling people about your skills and past experiences. This gives the company a better idea of what your all about. I may need to update these sections over the years, because I could have new skills and more experiences. For example, when I've finished my work placement. I think my CV is well laid out and I've made sure to make it one page instead of two, so I don't drag it out for longer than it needs to be. I think this makes it more professional too, and it's easy to navigate through the topics. Research - what makes a good CV Upon researching what makes a good CV, I came across an article from the Guardian which I believed had some gr...

Academic Options

Image
Here is a PowerPoint where I research into my academic options. I research into UCAS, University and Apprenticeships. I wanted to asses my options before I dove into anything. I looked into two University courses, and discussed them. This helps me get a better idea of what these courses are about. This information will help me chose whether or not I want to go down this path. More Ucas Research.pptx from ElliotDaroczy I wanted to do some research into UCAS, just in case I ever need to use it at any point. This is information is helpful to know, because if I decide to go to university I will need to work out my UCAS points, as well as student finance. Student Accommodation Within a short distance of our two campuses, you’ll find three University-managed residences, each providing you with an excellent range of locations to choose from. You can enjoy a superb riverside view from Panns Bank or Scotia Quay, or the spacious surroundings of Clanny House. They offer free transport...

Working in the Media Industry

Image
I found some local job options and what they are all about. This has helped me to think about more options for when I finish college and a range of courses or jobs I may want to look into applying to later on in the year. I have also applied to a BBC apprenticeship in Media Production, It's a part of the BBC Early Careers program. As well as content creation, I also want to look into video editing. So, I had a look on Indeed.com and found some editing jobs, I put the requirements onto this PowerPoint to give me a better idea of the type of salaries, qualifications, and skills I need to get one of these media related jobs. I found this information on Indeed.com.  Job Search | Indeed Here is a screen skills career map to help give you a better idea of where I would be if I pursued a career in editing. This shows how I will enter the industry and how I will progress through it as time goes on. If I were to get a job, I might start as a runner and if I work hard enough I may become ...

My Inspirations

Image
This PowerPoint goes through my inspirations and influences in my media and content creation. If it wasn't for me discovering YouTube.com I wouldn't be where I am today. In this post I also discuss genres and websites instead of individual creators, this is because these are my inspirations. I want to be as honest as possible. inspirationemploymentandhighereducationinmedia-221205212635-db7c028c.pptx from ElliotDaroczy Videos that Inspired Me Here is a video that inspired me, although I didn't include this in my PowerPoint Beyblade unboxing's have inspired me a lot. I thought I'd save the Beyblade Geeks for this segment. In this video they buy a fake Beyblade online and review it. They make comedic jokes about it's appearance, and I took inspiration from that. I really enjoyed the way they reviewed the product, and I thought I'd apply that to my own content.  This is an example of my own work, and if you watch both videos you can see I took some inspir...
